Small Class Size & Expert Instruction
Shotokan Karate of Arizona is proud to offer a traditional martial arts training program for kids. With our small classes and one on one training our program not only helps our children get physically fit it helps them to develop self esteem, discipline and focus. These skills give our children the tools to excel in school, condition their physical self and participate in a social program. In addition your child's training is in the hands of expert high level teachers with over 15 years on average of karate training.
Training Schedule
We believe a minimum of 2-3 days a week of training is important when starting karate training. We offer classes 5 days a week making it convenient for you to fit training into your child's schedule. In addition kids will have the opportunity to participate in other training opportunities including camps, tournaments and special weekend clinics. We encourage our young members to train as much as their schedule allows to receive maximum benefits from Karate. For complete school schedule please click here.

Philosophy and the Young Karate-do |
Kids training at Shotokan Karate of Arizona will be taught the principles of Shotokan Karate:
-
Seek Perfection of Character.
-
Be Faithful.
-
Endeavor to excel.
-
Respect others.
- Refrain from violent behavior.
It is through this philosophy that our young students achieve a greater confidence in life. |

Black Belt as a Goal
Many parents select a martial arts school based on how quickly their child can obtain a black belt. Shotokan Karate of Arizona is a Traditional Karate School recognized by the International Shotokan Karate Federation. This is an important point because these organizations recognize the belt level of a Shotokan Karate student around the world. When a parent looks to place their child in the martial art program it is very important to ask what the accreditation of the school is just like you would when considering a private scholastic education. This being said a black belt achieved at our school takes, effort, time and commitment. Through this hard work the child achieves a deep appreciation for his accomplishment that will spill over into all aspects of his or her life.
Testing and Achieving Higher Ranks
Even though it takes a long time to achieve a black belt, children training at Shotokan Karate of Arizona can test for ranks based on their skills and time committed to training. A child is eligible for a belt test (a graduation to a higher rank) every three months provided the child continuously trains and learns their kata (forms) for the next level. Belt test are held on average once every three months. When the child has successfully completed a test he or she is awarded a new rank and a different color belt.
Getting Your Child Started in Karate
Getting your child started in karate is easy. All you need is to bring your child in prior to class and sign some paper work including a release. For the first class the child can wear a loose fitting t-shirt and shorts. If the child wishes to continue you will only have to pay for classes on a month to month basis. Shotokan Karate of Arizona does not require contracts to train at our facility. In addition our office has the necessary equipment including uniforms and other supplies available.
If you wish to see a class first we have a viewing gallery so you can come and watch a class. Also please remember the first training session is complementary.

Kid's Competing in Karate Tournaments
Children wishing to compete in karate have opportunities throughout the year including competing in our International Level Competition the International Shotokan Karate Federation's Nationals. Our instructors hold tournament training clinics that usually fall on a Saturday morning. During these clinics the children learn the rules or competition and test their skills through one on one supervised competition. The children can compete in Kumite, Kata and Team events. Competition is an extension of training. Many parents are concerned with the safety associated with competition. Tournament rules promote only good sportsmanship and controlled techniques. Children competing gain valuable life skills that will help them in future competitions for jobs, other sports and will ultimately help their self confidence.
Training Fees
Our dojo is a place where an art is practiced. We do not believe in locking individuals into long term contracts. Fees are due on the 1st of every month. If you start mid month your rate will be pro-rated. In addition there is a one time membership fee for our parent organization.
We Sincerely Hope you will consider our Kid's Karate Program. We are a great group of individuals and our instructors are some of the best in the valley!
